What You Can Do To Help a Pet Get Out of a Locked Car

First, as pet owners, we must not leave our pets inside a parked, unattended, locked car even for only a few minutes. Even if it’s cold outside, it doesn’t mean that the temperature inside your car is the same. It can get hot and hotter within minutes. It can be dangerous to our babies to be left inside a hot car. It can be deadly and having the car window slightly open won’t help.

But if you found a dog, or a cat, or any kind of pet locked inside a car, alone, please do help him/her get out of that vehicle immediately. It only takes a few minutes for any living creature to get dehydrated and worse could happen to their internal organs if they stay longer inside that hot car.

If you found a pet looking so uncomfortable and sad inside a locked car, he/she must have been there for long. Your help is needed right away.

What You Can Do To Help a Pet Get Out of a Locked Car

Do not hesitate to help.

Here’s what you need to do when you found a pet locked inside an unattended car:

*  Take note of the car’s make, model, and plate number.

*  If there are business establishments nearby; restaurants or shops, inform their security guards and/or their managers about the locked pet in the vehicle and ask them to make an announcement to find the car’s owner. The car owner will return quickly to their car once they’re alerted to the danger they put their pets into.. and hopefully it won’t happen again.

*  If the car owner’s nowhere to be found, call the local police or animal control and wait for them to arrive. In some states, people can legally remove pets from locked cars, like breaking the car window, because an emergency calls for immediate action. But before you do it, you have to double check, triple check the laws in the area you’re in, so you won’t find yourself in trouble.

The HumaneSociety, an animal protection organization in the United States, have other recommendations and suggestions on how you can help to keep animals safe from being locked in hot cars. You can check them out and learn more about how to take care of your pets.

If you accidentally locked your pet inside your car though, because accidents do happen, you can contact a local car locksmith to assist you. A mobile locksmith is just one call away from getting your pet out of your vehicle and out of danger. Save a local locksmith’s contact number on your phone all the time in case an emergency like car lockout or if in case you need a car key replacement.
